OK....so I'm a little slow about getting around to an introduction, but I've been kinda busy lately.
I'm Doyle Coates, 43 years old and I live on 16 rural acres in NW Georgia with my other half of 13 years. I have 2 daughters (21 and 23) and I will have my first grandchild in November. I've had a lifelong passion for construction and architecture, often helping out my handyman father while growing up.
I walked away from a career as a corrugated packaging engineer (box designer) to start my own construction business. I started out just building decks, gazebos and storage buildings, but also have done some home additions and remodeling. I tend to stick with the storage sheds as they are an easy build and since I get bored with doing one project too long, I can move on to another job rather quickly. I also help a friend out with his kitchen refacing & remodeling business as I have time.
My goal is to have learned enough in the trade to start building small houses pretty soon. There's quite a bit of competition around here since the area is really starting to grow from all the people fleeing the Atlanta metro area to a quieter setting and better schools. Most houses under construction sell before they are completed.
I try to read each and every post on construction forums and other construction-related sites so that I can continue to learn. Hopefully I can give some advice every so often...lol. Glad to be here with some of the best guys on the web.
