Do you have one? If so, how much is it?

You mean cost of design? I've got several :)
I designed them all myself and spent nothing on one and $30 on the other 2 for some graphics.

Mine was designed by me using templates at Bravenet.com and costs me $7.95 per month for hosting. Seems like the original set-up fee was like $29, which covered the domain name registration.

I wouldn't mind having one, but I just never seem to get around to it. Plus it doesn't help that I'm kind of 'computer-illiterate'.

Let me know if you need some help Tom - I can hook you up with some good graphics people that are cheap.. and I can help with the html side of it.

Rich did you go to college for computer design or just kinda picked up on it here and there? I know you have more than one forum and they are really good so I was just wondering.

When I first started up my home building company I went out to find someone to build a website for me and a company logo. The web designer wanted 3500 and the logo guy wanted 800. I said "Yeah right" and taught myself how to do it. Never even took a computer literature course.

Thanks, Rich. I might take you up on that later. I just have absolutely no time for much of anything but workin' and figurin'. I don't know how you do all you do.

Umm.. I neglect my wife and child :) j/k of course.

Finally. Maybe I can make some time for a website. The big job I was supposed to do down the Jersey shore got postponed until next year (wheww)! Thinking of Doyle's idea with Bravenet, seems easy enough (even for me). And I appreciate your offer, Rich, but believe me, I'd somehow drive you 'nuts'. Anyway, unfortunately, trconstruction.com, and trconstruction.net, are already taken. My next choices, I guess, would be .info, .biz, .us, etc. Any opinions on this? Is it a big deal? Otherwise, it sounds like Doyle said, it's about $30 to join and get the domain name, and then about $8/month. Doesn't sound bad at all. Can say, fancier graphics be added later from elsewhere, or are you limited to the 'site' capabilities only? Thanks for any input, guys.

As cheap as bravenet is there service and servers aren't all that great.. through me I can set you up with 9.95 / month (no signup fees - at least that I've ever paid) with excellent service and quality. Mine are all setup through the same company.
It wouldn't bother me to help you out some.. I can give you a basic layout in html and then you can fill in the information.

Do it Tom, I hired someone and I am still not happy with the quality of the site, which they are fully designing over, right now as we speak.

OK, Rich, I'm game - - I just don't like to impose on anyone. As long as it's not too much trouble for you - - I'm in. Thanks.

no problem. Is there a site design that you've seen that you like? And if you could give me an idea on how many pages you want and what the names are. for instance, homepage, current projects, past projects, contact, about us..etc.

Rich

I won't charge you any money - I'll take it out in forum posts and word of mouth advertising LMAO

Doyle's site looks fine for a starting place, wouldn't mind something a little 'fancier'. I guess I don't know just what I want yet, but as long as I can expand on it later. I would need a Home page, About Us page, Contact page, and then also different pages for different types of projects, in other words, say, a Kitchen page, a Bath page, a Deck page, an Addition page, a Wainscote page, etc. I'd like to not only show pictures but maybe explain different 'technicalities' for each that set the 'experienced' above the 'lowballers'. Does any of this make sense? To try to answer your question, maybe starting with those three 'basic' pages listed above, and maybe about 13 'Project Type' pages? Additions, Remodeling, Kitchens, Baths, Windows and Doors, Roofing and Siding, Flooring, Decks, Porchs, Basements, Custom Woodwork, Wainscoting, and Miscellaneous, in case I missed anything.

No problem.. for the project type pages I'll make a template with pictures and a place for text below that you can copy and paste and keep expanding on it. And from that you'll also be able to copy and paste the whole page to another project type.
If you have an idea for a header or navigation let me know. Maybe if you have a logo or if you want certain pictures put together into something. Just email them to me.

No particular ideas yet for a logo or a header or navigation or any of that, just gonna have to wing it for now. Anyway you think is fine with me, like I say, I'm completely lost with this stuff.

If anyone is interested in learning more about basic HTML then have a look at

http://www.htmlcodetutorial.com/

They also have a forum (I used to be very involved but I had to make a choice between the construction forums and the computer forum). Most everything I learned about HTML I got from this site.

Mj, that site is very helpful. I can always use more info on HTML.
