I was very close to doing that same thing grumpy (had the pliers in hand) but am kind of glad I didn't. I don't think I could've stopped the bleeding. Was kind of funny actually - doc pulls it out and the nurse kind of gasps a little and says "we better get a bowl to hold all that".

i stapled my finger with a slap stapler while putting tyvek on a wall. my during my first summer break from college, and my first sumer building. at first i thought i just hit my finger, but then i saw the 1/2" staple flush in my fingernail. i used the ol plier trick. someone else had to pull it out as i couldnt do it. it wasnt bad at all.
now having a 16 in my finger, i couldnt imagine even trying to pull that myself. thats a hardcore individual to do that.

Not long after my incident a friend of mine (working for someone else - but that's not anoter story) shot himself with a gas powered finish nailer. Went right into his wrist - couldn't see the nail it went so deep. Said his hand instantly froze and he couldn't move anything from his wrist to his fingertips. Once they pulled it out he said he could move again.. he was pretty worried.
I've hit my finger with a hammer stapler too - the staple jammed before it went into my finger though. |

nail through thumb. double nailed pulling a top plate.. funny thing though, I am lighting a smoke looking for my super( I had tried to pull it out but it was lodged into bone)the mill safety guy came running by. He nearly passed out, started pulling out rolls of bandage, it was not bleeding, but he stood there wondering what to do. Eventually he handed me about twelve forms to fill out. I shot myself in my writing hand. I declined. Then the whole shift came by to check it out. about 30 people. I did not mind. a lesson learned. I'll be the goat.
in this country we have light duty. I went back to work pretty much after surgery installing steel doors and frames..carrying them up three flights of stairs...when I nail now I think about the light duty not the nail through my thumb. |
